Where is RingFree based?
We're based in San Francisco, CA, but our team members work from wherever they are sitting. Most of us are in California right now, though, waiting for our vacation time to kick in so we can travel to the south of Spain.
Does RingFree sell Voice over IP long distance calling?
No. RingFree is a software company with a service component. It's not a phone company. There are a lot of Voice over IP companies out there that will sell you minutes so that you can call regular numbers overseas for next to nothing. Some of these companies are even good (we'll leave it up to you as to which are), and we use some of them ourselves. At some future date we may resell calling services so that we can collect something like one-thirtieth-of-a-cent for every minute you use RingFree with that calling service. But don't count on it.
I need support. Where can I turn to?
We're still building out our 700-seat call center on the outskirts of Mumbai, and expect to be able to accept support calls there no later than your next lifetime. In the meantime, here are your support options (listed from most- to least-favorite from our admittedly biased perspective):
- Use the RingFree forum: You post your question here and you can be reasonably certain one of us will get to it soon. We like this method best because anytime we can make it that we don't have to answer the same question over and over again is time that we can spend playing Segway polo in our offices. You like this method because we get to it fast because unanswered posts on our forum embarrass us.
- Use the RingFree Feedback line: You use the RingFree dialer and make a SIP URI call to feedback@rf.com. If you have no idea what we're talking about, what this means is that you click on the RF dialer's address bar, use the keyboard to enter "feedback@rf.com," click the "Done" button on the iPhone keyboard, then click "Call" on the dialer. You will then be able to leave us a voice mail message.
- Go to "google.com" and type in your question. The right answer may or may not result, but it serves our purpose of informing Google that RingFree is something other than boating grease.
Do I need to "unlock" or "jailbreak" my iPhone to make VoIP calls with Ringfree?
No. RingFree is a web application that runs in Mobile Safari, so you don't have to mess with the innards of your iPhone to make it work. You can add a RingFree icon to your iPhone's Springboard pages if you click the plus sign on the bottom of the screen when you are looking at the RingFree dialer. This makes it so that you can get right to the dialer from the iPhone's main page in a single click.
